How long do cut flowers last? Tips from a florist

A beautiful bouquet of flowers instantly brings color and life to a home. But one question often comes up among customers: how long can a bouquet stay fresh?

On average, a bouquet of fresh flowers can last between 5 and 10 days, sometimes longer with a few simple steps.

Here are some tips from your florist.

Trim the stems

When you receive a bouquet, it’s best to cut the stems at a 45-degree angle, about 1 to 2 cm from the bottom.

This cut allows the flowers to absorb water more easily.

Change the water regularly

To keep flowers fresh longer, it is recommended that you:

  • change the water every two days
  • clean the vase
  • add fresh water

Avoid heat

Flowers prefer a cool place.

Avoid placing your bouquet:

  • near a radiator
  • in direct sunlight
  • near fruit

Fruit produces a natural gas that causes flowers to wilt more quickly.

Choose fresh flowers

The lifespan of a bouquet also depends on the quality of the flowers.

At Quelle Fleur est-il ?, we select fresh, seasonal flowers to ensure that our bouquets stay beautiful for as long as possible.
